A Pie to Die For is a cozy mystery set on an island called Split Pines located on the coast of Michigan. Este owns a pie shop and some of the pies are rumored to be lucky. Her crew includes a man named Seamus and his ex-wife Kitty who is also Este’s best friend. When a man whom Este doesn’t know comes to deliver her produce order, she is very skeptical, to say the least. When the man is murdered, Este knows that something is up and even though the local Sheriff, Tom, tells her not to start meddling in the investigation, she is stubborn and finds herself being targeted by whoever the killer is.

Although I enjoyed the story and the idea of a murder that must be solved, I found Este annoying and brash. She is extremely judgemental from the get-go. Also, for most of the book, Este talks about her pies and the murder is put on the backburner. It’s not until the last third of the book that things start to pick up. Although I like pie, I found most of the book droned on and on about Este and her bakery. It made the story boring and redundant.
