A Legionnaire’s Guide to Love and Peace: A Novel
In Kat’s defense, she thought she was going to die, so sleeping with her shield bearer, the one person she shouldn’t, wouldn’t have been a big deal. Right? How was she supposed to know that four heroes were secretly trained to defeat the evil she’s been fighting for the past three years? Now, Kat has to figure out how to navigate an awkward relationship, a clueless hero, and figure out what she’s supposed to do now that her whole life is ahead of her.
The story is usually told from the hero’s POV, but what about the people who have fought without knowing there’s a hero on the way? This is for them; it takes place after the final battle, but it answers the question of what comes after. It’s a refreshing new perspective. The characters are a little bland; they have their own goals and motives, but lack personality. The relationships are okay, I ship them, but they’re flat. The plot had not enough going on and too much going on simultaneously; there’s the romance, then the final evil that escaped the battle, but neither had enough time to truly be fleshed out. There’s heavy cussing throughout and several open-door spice scenes.
