200: A Graphic Novel

Eva Thorne is turning two hundred years old. In her world, a Cure exists for disease, and the ravages of aging itself exist, and everyone receives it. But not everyone can handle living forever. Once someone hits two hundred years old, they face a test. If they pass, they move on to immortality; if they fail, they are killed. Most people fail, and Eva expects that fate. But when she arrives at the testing center, she’s shocked to see a person who strongly resembles her husband of one hundred and seventy years, a man who went away for his own test a few months ago and never returned. Now Eva is determined to live at least a little bit longer, desperate to know the truth.

With 200, author Jennifer Brody explores a fascinating concept told with just the right amount of detail and suspense. Readers will be fascinated and perhaps a little appalled at the world Brody has created, as well as with the illustrations by Jules Rivera. Gritty and dark, it’s impossible not to root for the cynical Eva as she takes whatever steps necessary to break herself and her husband out of the testing facility and goes on a journey to discover what happened.
