Author Mary Engelbreit requested favorite dessert recipes from her friends and relatives. Her Fan Fare Cookbook is the result of this request with one-hundred-twenty recipes. Blessedly she edited each recipe to present them in a uniform format. Her recipe writing is very good and her instructions are clear, you’ll have no problem following them. Layout (with a few exceptions) is also good having each recipe on a single page or facing pages for the cook’s convenience. Ingredients are easy to find and your shopping trips will be easy. She states the name and location of each recipe baker and a short quote, often stating where the recipe came from. There is no list of content but Engelbreit divides and color-codes the book according to the main dessert divisions (cakes, pies, etc.). Cute, simple colored sketches illustrate many pages and also the front page of each division. She also adds many good food-related quotes here and there. The recipes are simple and most of them (if not all of them) you are likely to find in one of your own cookbooks (e.g. Sugar Cookies; Cinnamon Rolls; Easy Cheesecake). Unless you have no cookbook collection, pass on this one.
