Faulkner gave us Yoknapatawpha County, García Marquez the magical Macondo. Scott, in his PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize-winning collection, Insurrections, introduced Cross Creek, a fictional Maryland town founded by leaders of America’s only successful slave revolt. His second collection of stories returns to Cross Creek, exploring its past, its rich culture, its mysteries, and its vivid characters. Scott, hailed as “a necessary voice in American Literature,” follows a musician who is also God’s last son, a PhD candidate whose research sparks trouble in a nearby town, and a robot who serves his master all too diligently.

Scott will be in conversation with Amber Sparks, author most recently of The Unfinished World and Other Stories
