Best known for The Paper Chase—the iconic depiction of law school he wrote while attending Harvard Law, later turned into an Oscar-recognized movie and a long-running TV show—Osborn has gone on to practice and teach law himself, all while writing several more novels and episodes for shows like L.A. Law. His latest literary work is an intense, close-focus look at a marriage in crisis. Unfolding over the course of ten months and taking place entirely in a marriage counselor’s office, the book follows Gretchen and Steve, long-married and recently separated, as they struggle with what to do next and how to accommodate both their two children and their high-stress jobs. This is also the story of their counselor, who has to make sense of what he hears and figure out how to help.
