Damnation by Peter McLean finds Don Drake in dire straits—possessed by an archdemon, on the run from a fallen angel, and hooked on heroin.

After the events of Dominion, things are looking bad for Don Drake. After accidentally releasing and becoming possessed by the Burned Man, Drake flees London. Unable to find help or respite from the Burned Man, Drake turns to heroin. Drake is on his last legs, drugged out and fading fast. Only the Fates have more in store for him. An ancient war goddess, a mysterious hobo mage, and more gather to toss Drake into the deep end.

Peter McLean continues to knock it out of the park with the Burned Man series. This is urban fantasy at its best, and it perfectly blends fantasy with modern society. The biggest draw here is the intense world building. Between the demonic forces and ravaging war goddess, Drake’s backstory is fleshed out incredibly well. Additionally, the war in Heaven and matters with the devilish Adam come to a head. Be warned, it ends on one hell of a cliffhanger that will have you itching for the next book.
