The Inconceivable Adventures of Cabbage Boy: The Battle for Prico Hill
Having survived his first run-in with the Cabbage Roller and saved by an unnamed hero in neon green, Ralph thinks things might be quiet for a while. While contemplating all that has happened and how lucky he is to have such good friends, he and his buddies head to the bike trails, but run into Randy and his group of miscreants. When a battle ensues, winner determined by longest jump, Ralph notices first how Randy’s group is cheating, but also a most obnoxious odor — Randy’s breath! Using his secret power, he seals the win and avoids the noxious odor, but Ralph cannot avoid Randy forever. His next run-in is when his good friend Ronnie returns. He’d love to share his hidden identity with her, because it is making him crazy hiding such a secret, and he wonders if she might be the hero, but is afraid to put his friends and family in jeopardy by revealing who he is. But when Randy starts using his unbearable breath to hurt kids at school, Ralph knows Randy must be stopped, but even his secret power is not enough! The secret might be in his little brother’s diapers.
Readers should enjoy the first book, The Inconceivable Adventures of Cabbage Boy, before indulging in this one to fully understand the development of Ralph’s power, though the author does well including necessary details. The short length of the story will attract even the most reluctant reader, while the superpower will awe every boyish reader with the hopes of having such a power. The black-and-white pictures bring to mind the movement and strength of sports photos and help to define the action in the story. A fun read for young, immature readers, and everyone who’s wished for the ability to vanquish bad guys with a little natural gas.
