The Damascus Threat by Matt Rees tells the story of the ICE Special Agent and former journalist Dominic Verrazzano. In The Damascus Threat Verrazzano races against the clock to prevent a chemical attack on New York City. However, all he has to go on is a single clue given to him by a woman who is killed right before his eyes. Armed with this single piece of clue, he heads to Syria to unravel a plot which is much more sinister than he previously thought.

The Damascus Threat is the first entry in the ICE thriller series, and Rees sets the bar high for future novels. As Rees is a former journalist, he is definitely knowledgeable in current events, and his knowledge shows in the story line. The plot is thick and juicy and keeps you at the edge of your seat until the very last page. Character development is also quite good, with the characters having a human side to them. I also liked how the story goes back and forth between Syria and the United States.

Overall, I found The Damascus Threat to be quite an enjoyable read. If you enjoy fast-paced thrillers about international terrorism, then this is definitely the book for you.
