Sustainability is only a hard pill to swallow if we must think about maintaining it. Many have shared the outcries for a need to govern sustainability, believing that we’ve reached a crossroads that cannot be ignored any longer. The Worldwatch Institute has put together a rather impressive volume entitled, Governing for Sustainability, compiled by a selective Worldwatch Institute Board of Directors.

The book enters the political arena with conviction, in a multi-layered undertaking which attempts to lace together the many loose ends that come up from diversity; even though everyone disagrees about how to govern such sustainability, at least they all agree that the subject must be taken under study.

With witty points of view, this composite work outlines a template for leadership. It’s not your casual summer reading: it is a compilation making you reflect on the complexity of putting a program of this magnitude together. The many hours of thought poured into this effort make the results deserve a second look. The Institute aims to bring to light the diverse concerns that affect us all. I applaud these people for their sense of direction.
