Sam’s Pet Temper is a clever tale of a young boy who befriends his ‘temper’ when the temper’s roar gets the boy to the front of lines at the playground. But uncontrolled, the boy is blamed for the trouble his pet temper gets him into and is eventually sent to his room because of his temper’s actions. The next day his temper gets the boy in trouble again. Soon the boy decides he does not like his temper and decides to control it. He tries several strategies until he eventually challenges his temper and declares he is stronger than his temper. With one final deep breath, he discovers he can control his temper. In making the temper a pet, something outside of the child, author Sangeeta Bhadra offers a safe way for a child to understand his own temper and discuss how to control it. This book is an excellent teaching story providing strategies to help children control their temper. Illustrator Marion Arbona creatively creates a frightening yet friendly pet temper children will both adore and be glad to control.
