Cleo is back in her second entrepreneurial adventure. This time, she’s made her best friend, Caylee, into her COO, and they’re launching a collection of individualized barrettes called “Passion Clips.” While trying her best to make big sales from their barrettes, Cleo also has family matters to deal with. She still wishes she knew who her biological mother was and holds out hope of meeting her one day. As she tries to rally her friends to help her promote “Passion Clips,” she gets big news from the adoption agency, but it’s not the news she’d been dreaming of.

Cleo’s second book is just as good, if not better, than the first in the series. There’s a good balance of Cleo searching for her heritage and her desire to be successful with her new product line. It’s an inspirational story that tackles some heavy-hitting topics with age-appropriate sensitivity for tweens. The diversity in these books makes them worth noting, too. A truly unique heroine in middle-grade fiction, Cleo is equal parts heartwarming, conflicted, and determined.
