Associate Editor

City Book Review, publishers of the San Francisco Book Review, has an immediate full-time position opening for Associate Editor in their Sacramento, California, office located in Midtown.

City Book Review began publishing Sacramento Book Review in 2008 and launched San Francisco Book Review in 2009, which led to licensing the book review concept out to other cities (Portland, Tulsa, San Diego). We started out as a printed publication, but have morphed with technology over the past 6 years, focusing now only on the digital medium. We are the go-to source for not only avid readers to discover newly released books, but for publicists to showcase books coming onto the market. We receive upwards of 400-600 books a month from publishers and independent authors. This is the perfect position for those who have majored in English, literature, or publishing. It is Christmas in the office every day. This position requires that you be physically in the office M-F.

As an Associate Editor, you will be responsible for:

Our website,, everything there is a culmination of the above-listed duties. Managing upward of 150 reviewers is a bit like herding cats sometimes, but we’re a fun group to work with in a very laid-back office environment (we even have an office dog). Alas, you will not be alone in your endeavors here. You’ll share a large office not only with shelves and shelves of books, but also another teammate, who takes on a whole different set of duties, along with helping each other out, and two co-owners of the company. Small office. Big ideas. Impressive list of what we’ve accomplished over the last 6 years.

Desired skills:

Optional Skills:

If you live in the Sacramento area and think you’d be a great fit for our company, we encourage you to apply. This is an entry-level to intermediate position. Salary will be based on skills brought to the party. Please send your resume and cover letter to heidi[at] No phone calls, please.
